Acoustic Guitars for Sale
An acoustic guitar is a form of the instrument that has descended from the classical guitar (itself also an acoustic). The standard tuning for an acoustic guitar is E-A-D-G-B-E (low to
high), although many players, particularly fingerpickers, use alternate
tunings (scordatura), such as "open G" (D-G-D-G-B-D), "open D tuning" (D-A-D-F?-A-D),
or "drop D" (D-A-D-G-B-E). The acoustic guitar can vary greatly from model to model, with some featuring cutaways to allow easy access to the higher frets, others having much larger bodies, and there are even "dreadnaught" guitars where the body joins the neck as far back as the twelfth fret. Commonly the acoustic guitar comes with either six or, more rarely, twelve strings, in the twelve string acoustic guitar the top four sets of strings are tuned an octave apart and played together to add more depth and clarity to a note.
The construction methods used in the creation of the acoustic guitar also vary greatly. The more expensive versions feature solid tonewood tops usually made of spruce, with sides and backs of rosewood, maple or mahogany. Cheaper variations tyically use solid tops with laminated backs and sides composed of cheaper woods. Entry level and budget guitars are usually made up entirely of laminated wood. THe neck of the acoustic guitar is commonly made from mahogany and the fretboards are crafted from tropical hardwoods such as rosewood or ebony. These combinations of different body sizes, shapes and woods all effect the timbre of the guitar, and many players feel a well built guitars tone will improve over time due to the natural process of aging in the wood.
