Burns Guitar Shops
James Ormston Burns, founder and creator of this line of unique guitars has often been described as the 'British Leo Fender' a well-deserved
and apt title because there are many parallels to be drawn between the
two men. Like Fender Jim Burns was very much a pioneer, he had a strict policy of continual development and refinement of existing guitars which reflected a constant quest to
realise his vision of the ideal electric guitar. Burns guitars are unique thanks to some incredibly distinctive design ideas that are coupled with the finest hardware money can buy and solid, well tested circuitry. There are no gimmicks with burns, only genuinly innovative features in the guitars, many of which Jim himself invented (such as the heel-less glued-in neck, 24-fret fingerboard, knife-edge bearing vibrato unit, active electronics and stacked-coil pickups) but have since been claimed by other more forgetful luthiers.
Unfortunately the fortunes of Burns Guitars took something of a nose-dive in the mid 1960's and it took another twenty years before the company was restored to its former glory and recognised where recognition was due. Demand for prime examples of 1960's Burns Guitars by far outstrip demand and these are now considered very rare collectors pieces. The 90's saw the third attempt to revive the Burns Guitars brand and so far it has been a successful venture; superlative quality always speaks for itself and many are awestruck by the finesse and craftsmanship of these instruments. Burns Guitars also purchase all of their beech and sycamore from British sawmills that support the Timber Trust Federation, a charity Jim himself is heavily involved with.
