Childrens Guitars
The childrens guitar is a musical instrument with ancient roots that is used in a wide variety of musical styles, it typically has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten, and twelve string guitars also exist depending on many factors such as the style of music or the intentions of the player. However one major difference is present in the childrens guitar, often they are smaller than their larger bodied adult counterparts. Everything about the childrens guitar is identical to a standard sized instrument however it will have been downscaled by 1/2 or 1/4 resulting in half sized or three quarter sized childrens guitars. Generally half sized guitars are recommended for young children and once the child is only enough they should progress to the three quarter sized childrens guitar. The childrens guitar serves as a useful bridge between full sized adult instruments and allow children to learn using a proper instrument capable of producing genuine music rather than a dumbed down version for learning purposes.
Of course the childrens guitar will often suffer from some tone problems (particularly the acoustic versions). Since the size of the instrument is so much smaller than "regular" sized instruments the tone will be sharper with less resonance and timbre, volume and projection also suffer as a result of this downsizing. However the alternative (allowing children to play full sized instruments) is generally frowned upon as it forces the young players to develop bad habits and constantly change their playing styles as they "grow in" to the instrument. The childrens guitar is generally cheaper than the adult version and expensive versions of half and three quarter sized instruments are generally not produced as it is expected that the guitar will recieve a lot of knocks and bumps from the aspiring new musician so more care is often lavished on the fingerboard and bridge to ensure that playing is comfortable rather than on the woods used in the body of the childrens guitar for the best sound quality.
