Cort Guitar Shops
Cort are based in South Korea and are acknowledged as one of the largest guitar makers on the planet as they play a huge part in the OEM market producing instruments and hardware for other companies. The history of the company starts with one Jack Westheimer who was one of the earliest pioneers and promoters of Japanese and South Korean produced guitars. The Cort name followed as a shortened form of Cortez, a brand who produced acoustic instruments in Japan under contract from Westheimer. The Cort Guitars company itself was created in 1973 even though the brand had existed as far back as the early 1960's. The main Cort Guitars factory is located in Incheon with a second factory in Daejeon, both in South Korea. A third factory recently came online in Surabaya, Indonesia. Cort Guitars exceed a million guitars anually on a routine basis and have a manufacturing power second to none. Whilst the company has no recognisable signature model like the Les Paul or Stratocaster they produce a wide range of guitars designed to suit very different styles of play and genres of music. The mission statement of Cort focuses on making their instruments as affordable as possible without sacrificing quality.
