Danelectro Guitar Shops
Danelectro are a manufacturer based in the United States. Although they are primarily associated with producing accessories such as effects pedals and amplifiers they do produce a range of stunning instruments that any discerning guitarist will immediately feel comfortable playing. Many purists argue that along with Gibson and Fender Danelectro have produced some of the most iconic looking guitars that helped define a generation of music thanks to a number of celebrity endorsements since the company was first founded by Nathan Daniel in 1947. The resurgence of interest in indie-pop in recent years has done much to cement the reputation of Danelectro as a supplier of exceptional quality guitars, the unique "lipstick" style pickup is iconic of the brand and produces a pleasing, light, jangling tone that is difficult to replicate with standard single coils.
Danelectro originally produced amplifiers, it was not until 1954 when they first tried their hand at producing their own lines of solid bodied electric guitars. The origins of Danelectro are also deeply rooted in subcontracting; for many years the company produced both guitars and amplifiers to other companies specifications that were not sold under the Danelectro name. Many of these "store brand" Danelectro's are collectors items and sell for high prices at auction when they do come up for sale. It was this "no frills" approach to guitar construction that actually led Danelectro to develop the lipstick pickup; it's unique design allows the entire working mechanism to be placed in the tube eliminating much of the routing and wiring throughout the body of the guitar allowing for quicker turnaround of instruments.
Danelectro was also pioneering in developing the six string electric bass guitar, this would later be adopted by other companies although when it was first launched it proved too radical for its time and never really took off. Danelectro also expanded into other markets in the late 1960's when they began producing electric sitars and applying their pickup technology to other instruments. Danelectro left the guitar market in 2001, but 2006 saw a welcome return to the scene with a limited number being produced each year
