Korg Guitar Shops
Although Korg are often seen primarily as a keyboard manufacturer they do produce some stunning guitars, and they experience with electronic organs and studio equipment means that they produce a number of unique MIDI and PC ready keyboards you can use for recording direct onto software or a mixing desk. The Korg company was founded in 1962 in Japan by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai. Before founding Korg, Kato ran a nightclub. Osanai, a Tokyo University graduate and noted accordionist, regularly performed at Kato's club accompanied by a Wurlitzer
Sideman rhythm machine. Unsatisfied with the rhythm machine, Osanai
convinced Kato to finance his efforts to build a better one. Korg released their first company the next year in 1963, it was an electro-mechanical rhythm device called the Korg Disc Rotary Electric
Auto Rhythm machine Donca matic DA-20. Buoyed by the success of the
Korg DA-20, Keio released a solid-state version of the Rhythm machine, the
Donca matic DE-20, in 1966. In 1967 Tsutomu Kato was approached by Fumio Mieda,
an engineer who wanted to build keyboards. Impressed with Mieda's
enthusiasm, Kato asked him to build a prototype under the Korg name and 18 months later
Mieda returned with a programmable organ. Keio sold the organ under the
name Korg, made from combining keio with organ. The Korg company continued to produce organs that were very successful throughout the 1960's and the 1970's but they were always concerned about competition from other more established companies so they decided to use their know how and technology to produce a keyboard for the synthesizer market. The MiniKorg was then released in 1973 to a huge reception and was very well accepted by many musicians. They went on to follow on this success with a number of budget synths throughout the 1970's and 1980's and in 1987 Yamaha aquired a controlling stake in the company which Kato bought back in 1993.
