Takamine Guitar Shops
Takamine are based in Nakatsugawa, in Gifu, Japan. They are reknowned for their steel string guitars, particuarly their acoustics. Takamine guitars began life in May 1962, they saw lots of early popularity and success and by 1978 they were one of the
first companies to introduce acoustic-electric models, where they
pioneered the design of the preamp-equalizer component. They are distributed in the US by the Kaman Corporation. Takamine have been in legal trouble in the past, they decided to copy a Martin guitar which caused a strongly worded letter from Martin to be addressed to Takamine because in the early 1980's their acoustic guitars including the logo design were supposedly nearly identical to their rivals designs. According to Chris F. Martin IV, CEO of CF Martin and Company in a
speech given to the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum members on August
8th, 2005 no lawsuit was ever actually filed, and Takamine did change
the appearance of their guitars. Every year since 1987 Takamine have created a limited edition design, these have been produced in very limited quantities which drives up demand. These guitars always
come with the latest pickup/preamplifier combination available and
artful inlays, often with motifs focusing on nature or astronomical
phenomena. Takamine also began producing a line of books from 2007, these focus on the limited editions the company has creatd but provide general information about all Takamine instruments.
