Yamaha were founded in 1887 as a piano and reed organ manufacturer in the city of Hamamatsu in the Shizuoka prefecture of Japan. The company's origins as a
musical instrument manufacturer is still reflected today in the group's
logo; a trio of interlocking tuning forks. The company saw a lot of early success that continued until World War II, after the war the company president turned the machines into those used in the manufacture of motorcycles. The company expanded at an exponential rate and quickly grew to become the Yamaha has grown to become the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments (including Pianos,"silent" pianos, drums, guitars, woodwinds, violins, violas, celli, and vibraphones). They are also leading manufacturers of semiconductors, Audio/Visual, computer related products, sporting goods, home appliances and furniture, specialty metals, machine tools, and Industrial robots. Yamaha have had the honour of being involved in many world firsts including shipping the worlds first CD recorder in 1989, and many Olympic archers have won medals when using Yamaha archery equipment. Yamaha aquired German Audio Software manufacturers Steinberg in 2004, from Pinnacle Systems as another string to their musical bow. The Yamaha Pacifica guitar is seen as one of the best budget guitars, offering a choice of single and humbucking pickups and and sturdy design and comfortable fingerboard for new players.
